Excess Capacity With Lake Michigan, the sixth largest freshwater lake on earth, as the source of its water, the Milwaukee Water Works offers water-intensive industry an abundant supply of treated water at a consistent, reliable pressure. MWW provides drinking water to 859,000 people in Milwaukee and 15 neighboring communities. Wet industries benefit from the utility's excess capacity. Operating at one-third its rated plant capacity, MWW sold 35 billion gallons in 2007, an average 115 million gallons per day. While public health is the primary consideration in the delivery of Milwaukee water, the Milwaukee Water Works systems are designed to provide enough water to suppress a major fire anywhere in the service area. |
