Continuous Improvement and Use of Best Practices
The Milwaukee Water Works has adopted a strategy to operate as efficiently as possible. The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies recognized the utility in 2003 with a Gold Award for Competitiveness Achievement for applying best management practices to meet the public's requirement for safe water and low-cost service.

The Milwaukee Water Works has been recognized by the EPA for its program of enteric disease surveillance and response. The utility works in partnership with the Milwaukee Health Department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to review and discuss water treatment processes and system operation, source water impact and influences, health issues, and emerging research.

Through participation and contributions to American Water Works Association Research Foundation projects, Milwaukee joins other utilities using best practices in the industry.
