Kilbourn Reservoir Park Project Update October 20, 2006
We are ready to begin work deconstructing the internal structure of the Kilbourn Reservoir and renovating the park
with its familiar hill. A contract for $2.1 million was awarded to The Wanasek Corp. of Burlington, WI, and a
pre-construction meeting was held Oct. 10 with Wanasek representatives and their subcontractors. All parties
agreed it is very important to maintain a good relationship with park neighbors during the construction phase of
the project. Please direct any questions or concerns to:
Site security and safety are critical. A security fence will be installed around the entire property after tree
removal has been completed. The fence will be located inside the sidewalks, leaving sidewalks open for
pedestrians. A security guard will be stationed on the site during all non-business hours. A 24-hour contact phone
number for The Wanasek Corp. will be posted at the site for any emergencies. Milwaukee Water Works will have an
inspector on the site during working hours so any issues can be promptly resolved.
Work hours are expected to be 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no noisy activities to be performed before 7:00 a.m.
Some work may be done on Saturdays. Six or seven employees will be on the job site at any one time. These
individuals will park their vehicles inside the work area once the staging area has been constructed.
Marking of trees began the week of Oct. 16. (Note that marked trees are to be preserved, not removed.) As tree
removal proceeds, demolition of the structure under the hill will take place. Importing of soil, grading,
landscaping, and plantings will follow.
There will be a minimal amount of truck traffic with the start of the construction phase, but there will be
considerable truck traffic when the soil and debris moving begins. Incoming trucks will travel east on North
Avenue, turn north on Holton, and east on Meinecke, entering the work area from Meinecke. The reverse route will
be used when leaving the site. The contractor must move as much earth as possible before winter weather sets in.
Please note the demolition phase will be very noisy.
Another contractor has been working to stabilize the gatehouse atop the reservoir and will begin work to move it
to the parking area inside the fence on the southwest corner of the property. Work is expected to be completed by
the end of the week of Oct. 23.
