Kilbourn Reservoir Park Project Update December 8, 2006
(scroll down for project photos)
Work is underway on the demolition of the internal structure of the Kilbourn Reservoir and renovation of the park
with its familiar hill. The main contractor, Wanasek Corp., excavated the asphalt and concrete access trails along
the north and west edges atop the reservoir and reused the materials to build a ramp for heavy equipment to access
the east and north faces of the reservoir. The first week in December, Wanasek excavators began to cut into the
north face to access the interior of the reservoir.
Another contractor began work in late November to move the gatehouse from the top of the reservoir to the parking
area inside the fence on the southwest corner of the property.
Some sections of silt fencing along the public walkways outside of the construction limits and fence along East
North Avenue and other areas around the site will be repaired or replaced.
Marek Landscaping is installing protection from construction damage for the trees along East Meinecke, North
Bremen, and East North Avenue within the construction site.
Removal of certain non-historic trees and weedy overgrowth was completed in November.
Following demolition of the structure under the hill, the contractor will bring in soil and grade to re-form the
hill. Landscaping and plantings will follow.
