Kilbourn Reservoir Project Goes to Bid Aug. 3, 2006

The Kilbourn Reservoir Park Project is being advertised for bid beginning Thursday, August 3, 2006. A mandatory pre-bid meeting is being held on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 1:00 pm in the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 North Broadway, Room 102.

"Mandatory" refers to a requirement that all firms intending to bid on the project must send a representative to the pre-bid meeting.

Bids will be opened on Thursday, August 31, 2006 with the projected start of construction as mid-September, 2006. The bulk of the earthmoving work will be completed by the end of the year and some work will continue into 2007.

Recent developments include:
  • Arrangements have been made with the American Legion to receive and store the steel edging for the star configuration on the east side of the hill. The City and American Legion are working together to develop an agreement for the Legion's ongoing participation in the set-up and maintenance of a new star.

  • Tests indicate asbestos is present in the material coating the tennis courts atop the reservoir. A certified asbestos-removal contractor will remove the asbestos prior to the beginning of the reservoir demolition work.

  • The upper gatehouse will be removed and relocated prior to the start of the construction work.
